The challenge for any bridal couple is to create a day as memorable as it is beautiful. And what triggers memory more powerfully than scent? What is more personal? And so, when you have agonized over every detail of the dress, the party, the flowers, the seating plan why do fragrance by the book?  A ‘fragrance fitting’ will tailor your scent especially to you and your wedding. Known for her angelic looks bruised with a cool tomboy edge, British model Portia Freeman invites us along to her bridal consultation to share the secrets of her wedding plans and discover her fragrant picks for every element of the celebration.

The wedding
Describing their wedding plans as ‘un-themed, eclectic and fabulously non-traditional’, Portia and her fiancé, musician Pete Denton of The Kooks, have bypassed conventional expectations in favour of celebrating all the things they love. From starting the day together with a Champagne breakfast to Portia  dying her hair candy-floss pink for the occasion. With the wedding being held at the Pig on the Beach hotel on the Dorset coast, Portia will walk down a wild-flower meadow aisle overlooking Old Harry Rocks accompanied by her mother and  eight-year-old son Dylan, as guests nibble on flower petal-infused ice lollies. Then, of course, there’s a party of epic proportions planned…

For the bride
A familiar fragrance can be a surprisingly comforting presence on your wedding day. ‘English Pear & Freesia Cologne is my staple scent; I use it constantly and want to be recognisable to Pete on my wedding day,’ Portia says. But, on this occasion,  she will be pairing it with a spritz of Wood Sage & Sea Salt Cologne for a little added sparkle.

For the groom
Pete will be pairing his beloved and familiar Incense & Cedrat Cologne with Wood Sage & Sea Salt Cologne, uniting the couple through matrimony and scent.

For the wedding breakfast
Set on scenting the wedding breakfast marquee with something pretty, romantic and typically British  – this is a songwriter’s wedding, after all – the couple will combine Lavender & Lovage Home Candles with English Pear & Freesia Home Candles. The two combine to create a mellow, aromatic scent with a sensous freshness.

For the party
‘I’m obsessed with musky, woody scents,’ Portia says. ‘It’s what I call late-night smells. When I first smelt Incense & Embers, I got shivers; for Pete and I it was undoubtedly the party scent.’ As guests move from the overtly girly marquee to the oak-panelled party room ‘they will instantly recognise the change in tempo; it has a bit of a mischievous edge,’ Portia explains.

For the wedding favours
There was only ever one option – Incense & Embers Home Candles to give to all the guests, a fragrant reminder of that naughty yet wonderfully romantic evening in Dorset.
